Celtic & Claddagh Rings
The Claddagh symbolizes love in the image of the heart, friendship in the symbol of the hands and loyalty in the symbol of the crown. Some folk legends about the Claddagh say that the crown represents Beathauile. The left hand represents Anu who was the ancestral and universal mother of the Celts and who later changed her name Danu. The right hand represents Dagda Mor, the father of the gods who was so powerful he had the power to make the sun stand still. The heart represents the Hearts of all mankind and that which gives the everlasting music to the Gael. It still means a special love or friendship to this day and is extremely popular. Recently, the Chaddagh has gained popularity because Angel gave it to Buffy during the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer but for whatever reason, this symbol means deep, lasting friendship between giver and receiver as well as love and loyalty. Whether in a life partner or signifant other, girlfriend or boyfriend, this symbol endures as the gift of choice among friends and lovers alike.
